I’ve been down a bone broth rabbit hole lately, they’re not all created equal! If you want a hydrating drink, a bit of flavour, or gravy, the others are a great option. If you want the true benefits of bone broth; one that sets to a solid jelly rather than staying liquid, one that helps support the gut, one with high collagen levels, one with glucosamine and chondroitin for healthy joints… there’s only really one choice. Bone Marrow Bars… a great chew and long lasting but what do you do with the end piece?! Yak bars you microwave… Bone Marrow Bars you soak! Once your dog has had their fill and it’s too small to offer to them, pop it in a cup, fill with boiling water, and leave it to sit (for quite a while) stirring occasionally. Hey presto, you have a cup of thick and nutritious bone broth you can use as a meal topper or just as an extra treat!

4 colours, 3 settings, 2 fixing options… 1 light to rule them all..? EzyDog Go-2 Light! Being on the pricier side, I had to try them for myself. Archie has been my glamorous model for the trial. With 4 colour choices, you can cycle through blue, white, red, and green. You can choose from constantly on, slow flash or fast flash. It’s USB rechargeable and comes with a nylon clip and velcro strap so you can find the best fit for you. The sturdy construction means it’s waterproof and drop resistant too. Most of you know I use two lights on the boys, one on their back so I can see who’s who, and one on their front so I can see if they’re running towards me or away. So I started with it on Archie’s back, and boy was it bright! I had it on blue to match Bob’s for the best comparison, I found that too harsh on my eyes though so switched to red and it was much better. The next night I had it on Archie’s front in white, I barely needed to use my torch with my ankle high headlight leading the way. Even if he disappeared off so you couldn’t see the light directly his glowing aura gave away where he was. They state the runtime as 3-5 hours on constant (up to 30 hours on slow flash!). I used it on 4 walks and it finally ran out of charge last night, with each walk being about an hour and a half that put us right at the 5 hour mark. Price; they’re £30 so not a cheap purchase… are they worth it? They are super bright, being rechargeable is a big plus for me and the fixings are nice and secure. If you have a wanderer (Archie) and want peace of mind on an evening walk then I think they’re a great option to keep them visible 99% of the time. If you have a dawdler (Bob) then the Blinkers or collars I have in will do the job just fine. I’ll be swapping both boys over to have a white on their front, I like how bright they are and that they have little headlights to see what they’re sniffing, on their backs I’ll stick to the Blinkers!

The nights are drawing in, we’ve had the last sunset after 8pm until April now! The Night Light Blinkers from @miromakauri are perfect for keeping visible on those evening strolls! They’re light and bright to keep them in sight at night! Their wrap-around design means they fit pretty much any collar or harness, fitting nice and snug so they won’t fall off! With the option for always on, fast flash, or slow flash! I use two on the boys harnesses, coloured on the back so I can tell who’s who, white on the front so I know if they’re coming back or running off. If you’ve bought one from me before, pop in with them and I’ll swap out the battery for a fresh one. If you fancy doing it yourself, it couldn’t be easier! • Take the silicon back off • Pop out the workings • Slide the battery out (something pokey helps here to get it started) • Slip in a new battery (CR2032) being careful just to touch the sides • Then it all just goes back together!

Novel protein fans, 3 new snacks in! Dried Duck Heads Dried Frog Legs Dried Whole Quail A great snack for bigger dogs, or a teeth cleaning chew for the smaller of you!

I’m a big fan of glass bowls. Glass is arguably THE best to use as a dog bowl, being non-porous they won’t hold on to bacteria! Finding dog bowls made of glass is near impossible though. So I’ve been vintage shopping and sourced these Arcoroc Smoked Glass Bowls (aren’t they stunning?) Dishwasher safe, and stronger than normal glass (it’s French Pyrex). These will be limited additions as and when I manage to find them in various styles! Some have signs of wear and tear, others still have their original stickers on!

Limited number of dried prawns available! If they go down well like the Skippers ones did then I’ll stock up on them!

There’s no better plaice to be than out in the garden with these! Whole dried plaice, super low fat (3%)! I’ve gone for smaller ones of these, so more dogs can get involved. The haddock and dogfish are a bit big for some!

Fishy fan? A bit whiffy to cool yourself down with, but a great chewy treat. Ray Wings are low fat, and cartilage rather than bone so have that extra chew to them!

Got fleas? When an infestation starts, the only cure is a multi-step approach to make sure you get them all gone! • Check your pets coat regularly for fleas or signs of flea dirt (curly-wurly black flecks) using a flea comb. Have a bowl of boiling water close by to dispose of any that you find, or give them a squish. Catch it early and all the steps below will go much more smoothly! • Bath the pet: using a good flea shampoo to get rid of any that are present there and then. • Treat the house: with flea bombs or sprays, follow the directions to make sure you’re getting the best results. Make sure you treat every room and wash any bedding (60° or above). Always use one with an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) which will stop the larvae from developing into adult fleas. • Vacuum: like mad… before and for a few days after you spray, flea eggs hatch when they pick up on hosts being around (the presence of heat, movement and CO2) so vacuuming makes them hatch out thinking it’s dinnertime. • Treat the pet: the flea tablets I keep in are a good way to safely treat them. The same ingredients as Capstar but at a fraction of the price. They start killing fleas when they feed within 15 minutes and are only in their system for 24 hours. They’re safe to use alongside topical chemical treatments (spot-ons) and herbal repellants. Don’t exclude your pet from rooms! Once there’s a problem the first thought is usually to keep them out of rooms that they’ve previously been in… If they’ve been in there, fleas will be in there! With a flea treatment or having had a flea tablet they are little flea killing tanks, fleas will jump on for a tasty snack and end up meeting their maker. If you’re using spot-on treatments and your dog swims or gets bathed regularly then that will be diluting the solution. Spot-ons work with the oil on the coat, it’s stored in the sebaceous glands in their skin and then spreads over their skin and coat along with their natural oils, swimming and bathing washes some off each time.

Shark Blades! Cartilage rather than bone, Shark Blades (fin and spine) are a tasty snack. I was surprised by the lack of smell to these, when you open the bag there’s a bit of a pong but it soon dissipates! Ethically sourced, being leftovers that would otherwise be discarded. Meaning every bit gets used up instead and your dog gets a tasty treat!

Freshly released from Customs, Croc Tails! Another great novel protein! As with all products; feedback is welcome (good or bad) as I won’t be keeping the full range of these new Australian products, just the favs! The obligatory videos of the boys tucking in are there if you swipe through. Bob was done in 7 minutes, Archie took a timely 45 minutes. So they’re like a 15-20 minute chew for a normal dog!

For all you fans out there, I present Bob & Archie vs the new Bone Marrow Bars! Bob was straight in there, last pic is the dent he’d made after 15 mins of chewing! Archie (lazy chewer) needed a little encouragement to chew, but settled on a licking technique instead! As they soften with moisture they get a gummy texture; like a Fruit Gum, or American Hard Gum (when they were good, not the modern soft things!) making it easier to scrape bits off but retaining the solid chew! Bob gives a 10/10 Archie says “pass me the Mantis Shrimp”

I’ve sent so many of you off to supermarkets to get pumpkin puree before, I now have in Pumpkin Powder! 100% pumpkin and shelf stable, so you can mix it up as and when you need it! Great for tummy upsets (firming up diarrhoea, or helping get things moving if they’re constipated), a source of fibre to help keep those anal glands healthy, as well being rich in vitamin and antioxidants! Yeasty dogs rejoice, there's a new product to help fight yeast and fungal infections! Itchy ears and cheesy paws are a thing of the past with ProPythium, a totally natural product! Easy to use (and you only need a small amount), I have the ear cleaner and topical oil in to combat most problems. I've popped the blurby-bit below for you that explains, in detail, what is it and how it works. First discovered by researchers investigating how roots protected themselves in the soil, Pythium oligandrum is a microscopic algae that works via mycoparasitism. It uses other fungi for sustenance and survival. It attacks those organisms, extracting nutrients such as nitrogen, carbon, and nutrients for reproduction, and killing the organism in the process. It then creates zoospores that actively seek out more of that fungi and it’s spores. Beyond mycoparasitism, Pythium further secretes enzymes that aid its consumption of fungi but also curb bacterial growth so they are not disturbed in the process. Once resources deplete, Pythium oligandrum encapsulates and soon leaves its host, at which point normal microflora returns.

Mantis Shrimp! Part of the new Australian range. A tasty, crunchy crustacean that your dog will love! Once again, the boys have done a taste test for us. Archie was a willing participant… I’ve included the video of Bob, but he couldn’t quite contain himself (shows you the kind of shiz I have to put up with with him 😂). There’s a pic at the end of a live mantis shrimp too, because they’re stunning and fascinate me. As their name suggests, they have front legs like a praying mantis that move so fast they knock out their prey and cause a cavitation bubble (a mini vacuum). A hit so hard, if kept in aquariums, they’re able to break glass! Worth a search on YouTube!

Two very different styles of eating… but Crocodile Legs are a winner with both! Bob was done in about half an hour, then spent 10 minutes clearing up. Archie is still going strong an hour later!

Great for holidays when freezer space is at a premium or travelling with frozen food isn't an option, and perfect for even the fussiest of eaters! As well as their food I have their tasty toppers, already powdered and ready to sprinkle on top of food or on a lick mat. AND I have their freeze dried treats too in handy pocket sized bags ready to deploy when your little angel is being anything but... Before Christmas I ran a trial of COYA and another freeze dried brand and the feedback was amazing, COYA came out on top for palatability and what was coming out the other end!

The first of a few new lines I have heading their way into the shop, Tribal Fresh Pressed! A good range of flavours for every palate, and a Small Breed option for those littler mouths! Using only fresh meat, never meat meal, Tribal is a top quality brand for the benefits of raw food but the convenience of dry!

Quail eggs are back in stock! If you won’t use them all or just want some for emergencies, I’ve been testing out freezing them and they freeze quite well in the shells! Just a little crack in the shell but not the membrane (so they don’t leak when you defrost them)

My hours for over the Festive period! As always, I'll be taking a break over Christmas with 2 days of short hours between for those emergency shops.
